Ford democratised car ownership through the moving assembly line and the Model T, the first mass-produced affordable automobile. Today Ford sells vehicles in over 125 countries and is particularly well known for the F-Series trucks, America's best-selling vehicle for decades, and performance icons like the Mustang.

History
Henry Ford established the Ford Motor Company on June 16, 1903 with $28,000 of capital. The Model T launched in 1908 transformed mobility, selling over 15 million units by 1927. Highland Park's moving assembly line (1913) cut chassis assembly time from 12 hours to 93 minutes, enabling affordable mass motoring. Post-war models including the Thunderbird (1955) and Mustang (1964) became cultural touchstones. The Ford GT40 program (1966-1969) ended Ferrari's dominance at Le Mans. Under Lee Iacocca and later Alan Mulally, Ford survived the 2008 financial crisis without a government bailout. The F-150 has been America's best-selling vehicle every year since 1981. Ford launched the Mustang Mach-E EV in 2021 and the F-150 Lightning electric truck in 2022.

Ford's four consecutive Le Mans victories (1966-1969) with the GT40 are among motorsport's defining moments, culminating the Factory v Ferrari rivalry dramatised in the film Ford v Ferrari. The Boss 302 and Shelby GT350/GT500 Mustangs dominated SCCA Trans-Am in the late 1960s. Ford has been deeply embedded in NASCAR, winning multiple Cup championships. The Ford RS200 competed in Group B rallying. The GT (2016-2019) returned Ford to Le Mans GTE Pro class, winning on its debut in 2016.
