The story
The Volkswagen Routan was Volkswagen's first minivan offering in the North American market, designed to compete with established models like the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. It combined Volkswagen's design language with the practicality and features of a traditional minivan.
The Volkswagen Routan offered a unique blend of European styling and American minivan practicality.
History
The Routan was introduced in 2008 as a 2009 model year vehicle, marking Volkswagen's re-entry into the minivan segment after the discontinuation of the Eurovan. Despite its initial promise, the Routan faced challenges due to its close resemblance to the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan, leading to modest sales figures. Production ceased in 2014, and Volkswagen has not produced a direct minivan successor since.
