The story

The Porsche 962 is the customer Group C and IMSA GTP car that replaced the 956. More than 90 chassis were built, and many survive in private collections as the most usable 1980s prototype a collector can still run.

History

Porsche moved the driver's feet behind the front axle to meet IMSA rules and created the 962. Works and customer teams raced it through the 1980s. Later 962C cars stayed competitive into the early 1990s.

On track

Le Mans wins in 1986 and 1987, plus a stack of IMSA GTP titles. The 962 is the car privateers bought when they wanted to win endurance races.
