The story
The Pagani Zonda is the debut car of Horacio Pagani's eponymous company, a hand-crafted, V12-powered hypercar built in San Cesario sul Panaro, Italy with a level of artisanship that has no peer in volume production. Powered by Mercedes-AMG V12 engines in 6.0-liter, 7.0-liter, and finally 7.3-liter evolution, with outputs ranging from 394 hp to 760 hp in the most extreme F variant. The Zonda continued being produced in special commission form until 2019, 20 years after its introduction.
History
Horacio Pagani founded his company in 1992 after working as a special projects engineer at Lamborghini under the Countach and Diablo programs. The Zonda C12 debuted at Geneva 1999 with a 6.0-liter AMG V12 and a carbon fiber body of extraordinary visual complexity. The Zonda S followed with the 7.0-liter engine, the Roadster brought open-air motoring, and the F of 2005, 650 hp, 1,230 kg, pushed performance to supercar-leading levels. Subsequent limited editions include the R (track only), Cinema, and Revolucion.
On track
The Zonda R track-only variant of 2009 produced 750 hp from a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter Mercedes V12 racing engine and set a Nürburgring lap record of 6:47 for track-only vehicles. The Zonda has competed in various private track days and club racing globally.
