The story
The Mercedes-AMG GT is AMG's core sports car range, built around a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 producing from 469 hp in base form to 720 hp in the Black Series variant and 577 hp in the R specification. With a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, it is designed to compete directly with the Porsche 911 on both road and track. The Black Series of 2020, with its flat-plane crankshaft V8, set a then-record Nürburgring lap time of 6:43.61.
History
Unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show to replace the SLS AMG, the GT debuted as a coupe and was joined by a roadster in 2016. The GT R "Beast of the Green Hell" arrived in 2017 with active rear-wheel steering and extreme aerodynamics. A four-door GT 4-Door Coupe followed in 2018. The GT Black Series of 2020 featured a flat-plane crankshaft V8 developed with Formula 1 input, producing 720 hp, and broke the Nürburgring production car lap record outright, not just in its class.
On track
The AMG GT3 and GT3 Evo became dominant GT racing tools globally, winning championships in DTM, Fanatec GT World Challenge, Intercontinental GT Challenge, and many national series. AMG GT customer racing vehicles have achieved class victories at the Nürburgring 24 Hours and Spa 24 Hours.
