The story
The Lamborghini Gallardo became the most commercially successful Lamborghini ever built, with 14,022 units produced across its decade-long lifespan. Developed under Audi's ownership and sharing platform architecture with the Audi R8, it introduced Lamborghini's first V10 engine, a 5.0-liter unit eventually producing 570 hp in Superleggera trim, and brought genuine reliability and build quality to the brand for the first time. The Gallardo single-handedly transformed Lamborghini from a niche oddity into a volume manufacturer.
It is the car that proved Lamborghini could survive and thrive as a modern business.
History
Unveiled at Geneva 2003, the Gallardo launched with standard all-wheel drive and a 500 hp 5.0-liter V10. The LP 560-4 of 2008 enlarged displacement to 5.2 liters for 560 hp and a revised dual-clutch transmission. A Spyder roadster, the lightweight Superleggera, and the 570 hp Super Trofeo Stradale homologation model rounded out the range. Continuous engineering refinement over ten years proved that Lamborghini could produce a reliable, consistent supercar for everyday use without sacrificing the brand's drama.
