The story
The Ferrari Testarossa is a mid-engine grand touring car that debuted at the 1984 Paris Motor Show and immediately became a cultural icon of the decade. Its name, Italian for "red head", refers to the red-painted cam covers on its 4.9-liter flat-twelve engine producing 390 hp. The signature side strakes channeled air to rear-mounted radiators, giving the car a silhouette that defined an entire era of automotive desire.
No other Ferrari so thoroughly captured the imagination of an entire generation.
History
Designed by Pininfarina as the successor to the Berlinetta Boxer, the Testarossa entered production in 1984 with improved cooling and a wider, more spacious cockpit. The twin side-mounted radiators necessitated the dramatically wide rear body that made the car unmistakable. It evolved into the 512 TR in 1992 with revised suspension and 428 hp, then into the F512 M in 1994 with fixed headlights and further weight reduction. More than 10,000 Testarossas were produced across all variants, making it one of the most numerous supercars Ferrari has ever built.
