The LaFerrari is the final member of Ferrari's unofficial hypercar holy trinity and the proof that electrification, when applied by Ferrari, can amplify a V12's character rather than dilute it. It stands as the most pow...

The story

The LaFerrari was Ferrari's first hybrid hypercar, combining a 6.3-liter V12 with a 163 hp KERS-derived electric motor for 950 combined horsepower, the most powerful road car Ferrari had ever built at the time of its launch. Ferrari selected 499 customers personally approved by the company, with a subsequent open LaFerrari Aperta extending the total to 709 units. It completed Fiorano test track laps faster than the Enzo.

History

Revealed at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the LaFerrari used HY-KERS technology with electric motors designed specifically to fill the V12's torque gaps and enhance response rather than substitute for engine character. Weight was held under 1,400 kg despite the hybrid system's complexity through extensive carbon fiber construction. The Aperta variant arrived in 2016 for Ferrari's 70th anniversary. The FXX-K and FXX-K Evo track programmes pushed output to 1,050 hp, serving as rolling laboratories for future Ferrari development.

On track

The FXX-K and FXX-K Evo stemmed directly from the LaFerrari's hybrid architecture and hosted Formula 1 champions including Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen. The programme demonstrated that hybrid technology could dramatically enhance, rather than compromise, the Ferrari driving experience, informing the SF90 Stradale's development.
