The story
The Ferrari Enzo, named in honor of the company's founder, applied Formula 1 aerodynamic and materials knowledge into the most advanced road Ferrari of its era. Its 6.0-liter V12 produces 651 hp and was paired with carbon ceramic brakes, a production car first, and an F1-style sequential paddle-shift gearbox. Ferrari built 399 numbered examples and one additional unit auctioned for tsunami relief.
Its F1-derived aerodynamics and carbon monocoque established the technical DNA of every Ferrari hypercar that followed.
History
Revealed at the 2002 Paris Motor Show, the Enzo was developed in parallel with Ferrari's F1 programme to transfer technology directly to the road. Its active aerodynamics, derived from the F2002 championship car, generated 775 lb of downforce at 186 mph. Carbon fiber construction throughout held weight to 1,365 kg. The FXX track-only programme launched in 2005, offering 55 customers a 700 hp racing derivative, further refined into the FXX Evo at 860 hp.
On track
The Enzo's FXX programme hosted Formula 1 world champion Michael Schumacher and other elite drivers who provided engineering feedback to Ferrari. The FXX Evo of 2007 served as a rolling development laboratory for HY-KERS technology, contributing to what would eventually become the LaFerrari.
