The story

The Ferrari 250 LM is a mid-engine V12 Berlinetta built for GT racing. Only 32 were made. It is one of the most valuable Ferraris in the world and the car that won Le Mans overall in 1965 for the North American Racing Team.

History

Ferrari intended the 250 LM as a GT homologation of the 250 P prototype. The FIA refused GT status because too few cars existed, so it raced as a prototype. Pininfarina and later Scaglietti clothed a mid-engine V12 that pointed toward every mid-engine Ferrari that followed.

On track

Masten Gregory and Jochen Rindt won the 1965 24 Hours of Le Mans in a NART 250 LM, Ferrari's last overall win at Le Mans until 2023. The model also won at Reims, the Nürburgring, and in North American sports-car events.
