The story

The BMW 507 is a roadster that was produced by BMW from 1956 to 1959. It was designed by Albrecht von Goertz and intended to be a luxury sports car that could compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz 300SL. Despite its stunning design and performance, the 507 was not a commercial success due to its high production costs.

History

The BMW 507 was developed in the mid-1950s as a response to the growing demand for luxury sports cars in the United States. Max Hoffman, a New York-based importer of European cars, convinced BMW to produce a roadster that could rival the Mercedes-Benz 300SL. The 507 featured a sleek design by Albrecht von Goertz and was powered by a V8 engine. However, due to its high production costs, the 507 was priced significantly higher than initially intended, which limited its sales. Only 252 units were produced, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector's item today.
