The story

Audi AG is a German automobile manufacturer that produces luxury vehicles. Member of the Volkswagen Group, Audi's name derives from a Latin translation of founder August Horch's surname. Audi pioneered and commercialised permanent all-wheel drive in passenger cars with the Quattro system, transforming both road car capability and rally competition.

Vorsprung durch Technik.

History

August Horch founded his second company (after leaving Horch) calling it "Audi", Latin for "horch" (listen). Auto Union formed in 1932 from Audi, Horch, DKW, and Wanderer. Post-war Auto Union was owned by Daimler-Benz then by Volkswagen from 1964, which rebuilt the Audi brand. The Audi 80 and 100 established credibility in the 1970s. The Ur-Quattro of 1980 brought permanent 4WD to production cars and dominated the World Rally Championship. The Audi TT (1998) was a critically acclaimed design achievement. Audi became the pinnacle luxury brand under VW Group, rivalling BMW and Mercedes. The e-tron electric SUV launched in 2018; the Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron followed.
