The story
The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is a modern icon, a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive supercar powered by a Ferrari 4.7-liter V8 producing 450 hp, styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro to evoke the classic Alfa Romeo 8C cylinder racing cars of the 1930s. Just 500 coupes and 500 Spiders were produced, all sold without a single advertisement from a waiting list that formed the moment the concept appeared in 2003. It is the most beautiful Alfa Romeo built in the 21st century.
History
The 8C concept debuted at Frankfurt 2003 and generated such demand that Alfa Romeo immediately confirmed production. Sharing a platform with the Maserati GranTurismo (both Fiat Group products), it used Maserati's transaxle layout with the Maserati/Ferrari 4.7 V8. The coupe ran from 2007-2009; the Spider from 2009-2010. Pricing was relatively modest for its performance, approximately €120,000, and all 1,000 cars were allocated before production began. An 8C-derived GT3 racing variant competed in the Italian GT Championship.

Autodelta developed a GT3 racing version of the 8C Competizione that competed in the Italian GT Championship from 2009-2011. Its Ferrari-derived engine and platform gave it genuine racing credibility, and the car was campaigned by privateer teams across several European GT championships.
