The story

The 1970 Plymouth Superbird was a high-performance version of the Plymouth Road Runner, designed specifically for NASCAR racing. It featured a distinctive aerodynamic nose cone and a large rear wing to improve high-speed stability.

Its limited production run and success in NASCAR have made it a highly desirable collector's item.

History

The Plymouth Superbird was developed in response to the success of the Dodge Charger Daytona in NASCAR. Plymouth aimed to create a competitive vehicle by enhancing the aerodynamics of the Road Runner. The Superbird's unique design, including its elongated nose and towering rear wing, was a result of extensive wind tunnel testing. Despite its racing pedigree, the Superbird was also available to the public, with approximately 1,935 units produced to meet NASCAR's homologation requirements.
