R390 GT1

Two street cars. That is the entire road production. If a collector has one, it is among the rarest GT1 homologation specials in existence, alongside the 911 GT1 and Mercedes CLK GTR.

The story

The Nissan R390 GT1 Straßenversion is one of the rarest street cars ever built. Nissan made only two road cars so it could race the R390 at Le Mans. It uses a mid-engine 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 and a carbon chassis designed with TWR.

If a collector has one, it is among the rarest GT1 homologation specials in existence, alongside the 911 GT1 and Mercedes CLK GTR.

History

FIA GT1 rules required a street version. Nissan and Tom Walkinshaw Racing developed the R390 from the R33 GT-R engine family and a carbon tub. The two street cars were shown in 1997. The race cars finished 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 10th at Le Mans in 1998.

On track

The R390 GT1 raced at Le Mans in 1997 and 1998. The 1998 1-2-3-4 class finish in GT1 (third overall) is the high point of Nissan's 1990s endurance programme.
