The story

Gordon Murray Automotive builds analog hypercars designed by the engineer behind the McLaren F1. Each car uses a Cosworth V12, a manual gearbox, and a central driving position where the architecture allows it. Production is capped in the low hundreds so every car stays a collector piece as well as a driver's car.

History

Gordon Murray left McLaren after the F1 programme and later founded Gordon Murray Design, then Gordon Murray Automotive, to build road cars to his own brief. The T.50 arrived in 2022 as a spiritual successor to the F1: 986 kg, a 12,100 rpm V12, and a rear-mounted fan for active aerodynamics. The T.33 followed as a two-seat GT with the same engine family and a 100-car coupe limit.

On track

Murray's racing record is the foundation of the brand. He designed the Brabham BT46B fan car and the McLaren MP4/4 that won 15 of 16 Grands Prix in 1988. The T.50s Niki Lauda is a track-only derivative named for the three-time world champion who drove Murray's cars.
