The story

The Chrysler Conquest was part of a joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, designed to offer a sporty alternative in the American market. It shared its platform and many components with the Mitsubishi Starion, providing a blend of Japanese engineering and American branding.

History

The Conquest was part of Chrysler's strategy to diversify its lineup with more performance-oriented vehicles during the 1980s. By partnering with Mitsubishi, Chrysler was able to offer a vehicle that could compete with other popular Japanese sports cars of the time, such as the Toyota Supra and Nissan 300ZX. The Conquest's production ended in 1989, as Chrysler shifted its focus to other models.

On track

The Mitsubishi Starion, on which the Chrysler Conquest was based, saw some success in motorsport, particularly in rallying and touring car racing. The Conquest itself was not a major player in motorsport but benefited from the performance pedigree of its Mitsubishi counterpart.
