The story

Apollo Automobil, originally Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur, builds extreme mid-engine hypercars in very small numbers. The original Apollo used a twin-turbo Audi V8; the later Intensa Emozione switched to a naturally aspirated V12 and a carbon tub closer to a prototype racer than a road car.

Intensa Emozione

History

Roland Gumpert, a former Audi Sport director, founded the company in 2004. The Apollo launched in 2005 and became famous through Top Gear and a Nürburgring campaign. After bankruptcy and a restart under Hong Kong ownership, the brand returned as Apollo Automobil with the Intensa Emozione in 2017, limited to ten cars.

On track

The original Apollo was developed with circuit use in mind and set fast Nordschleife times for a road-legal car of its era. The Intensa Emozione was designed around LMP-style aerodynamics and a Hewland sequential gearbox, making it one of the most race-derived street hypercars of the 2010s.
