The story

Acura is the luxury and performance vehicle brand of Honda Motor Company, launched on 27 March 1986 as the very first Japanese luxury automotive brand sold in North America. Acura established its driver-focused identity through the Integra, TL Type-S, and RSX Type-S performance cars, but its supreme achievement is the NSX, a mid-engine aluminium supercar developed with Ayrton Senna's input that rewrote the rulebook for affordable exotic cars in 1990 and again with its hybrid successor in 2016.

Precision Crafted Performance

History

Honda launched Acura in the United States and Canada in March 1986, introducing the Legend sedan and Integra as founding models and immediately exceeding sales projections. The brand's defining moment arrived in 1990 with the original NSX: a mid-engine, all-aluminium body, naturally aspirated V6 sports car developed with active input from Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna. The NSX challenged Ferrari 328 and 348 buyers on dynamic grounds at half the price and with infinitely greater reliability. After the NSX's discontinuation in 2005, Acura entered an identity search, producing competent but less inspiring models. The second-generation NSX (2016–2022) returned with a twin-turbocharged V6 and three-motor Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The Integra nameplate was revived in 2023 with a six-speed manual option, signalling renewed commitment to driver engagement. The Type S performance variants, NSX Type S, TLX Type S, MDX Type S, have reaffirmed Acura's sporting credentials.

On track

Honda and Acura have an extensive motorsport history. The NSX has competed in Super GT, GT3 endurance racing, and the FIA WEC. The Acura ARX-05 prototype competed in IMSA's DPi class from 2018, winning multiple Daytona 24-hour races with Meyer Shank Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing. The NSX GT3 Evo won races at Spa, Suzuka, and Bathurst in the Intercontinental GT Challenge. Acura's approach to factory motorsport mirrors Honda's engineering philosophy: total commitment to reliability and precision over brute force.
